Historical gem – Roman remains in the centre of Poreč

When you enter the historical centre of Poreč, you have come to a place of incredible historical value, created over 2000 years ago. Despite the many influences over the years, the Roman Empire has remained the most visible one.

First and foremost, the regular layout of the streets has been maintained, and the longest longitudinal and transverse streets still bear their ancient names – Decumanus and Cardo Maximus. There are many remains of Roman villas that can give us a glimpse of the past. The same goes for Marafor, the ancient main square, where administrative buildings and temples stood. The original paving and parts of the walls of the Temple of Neptune are still preserved. However, the greatest jewel is the Euphrasian Basilica, one of the best-preserved Byzantine monuments, built in the 6th century and protected by UNESCO since 1997.

It’s no exaggeration to say that Poreč is a treasure chest of history – book a place in one of Poreč’s campsites and start exploring the historic beauty of this destination.
