The region of Zadar, with its nearby islands, represents the Northern Dalmatia, well connected via the highway, port, and even an international airport. It attracts thousands of tourists each summer, many of them camping in one of the modern campsites, which are all located by the sea, surrounded mostly by pebble beaches.
Campsites vary in size and facilities, most of them accept pets, some offer pools or even water parks. They all include restaurants and bars and are family-oriented with lots of features for children. Whether you aim to sit back and enjoy the beach, immerse yourself in the beautiful nature, engage in sports activities, or explore Zadar’s historic UNESCO-listed sites, you will find endless options in this captivating part of the Adriatic.
And the fun doesn’t stop when the sun sets – quite the opposite. After dinner, which should include some of the amazing local cuisine, you can check for yourself whether the region is rightly famous for having some of the best nightlife in the Mediterranean.

The best part about camping in the Zadar region is always having an option: If you enjoy swimming in the sea but other members of your family prefer going to the pool, there’s no need to choose, as both options are available in most campsites. Your kids will love the waterslides in the water parks and the campsite animation team will keep them safe and busy on playgrounds and in various workshops all day long so you are free to catch up on some reading in a lounger, enjoy a cocktail or simply relax and get some sun. After you recharge you might be interested in some sports or do a little sightseeing by taking part in one of the numerous tours available, so you can work up your appetite before dinner.
Talking about families: Most people consider their pets as full-fledged members of the family. Luckily there are plenty of pet-friendly campsites in the region that offer several accommodation options, where your pet is welcome. Those campsites provide extra facilities for pets too, such as dog showers and dog beaches. And since dogs (but also people) need regular exercise, there are often long and scenic walking paths right next to the sea for those long daily strolls. People with pets tend to be more active which is why campsites with pool and/or a nearby waterpark are often their first choice. But whether you camp with pets or no pets, alone, with a partner, family or a group of friends, you will always appreciate the amazing nature, the nice weather and the crystal clear sea surrounding the campsites in the region.
You love being one with nature yet you need some more space for yourself and your family? By choosing a mobile home the levels of space, comfort and privacy increase immediately – some mobile homes even have a private pool or a hot tub. Island Pag offers a wide selection of mobile homes: From basic to genuine designer units with extra comfort and luxury. And let’s not forget about glamping options either. Numerous mobile homes are available in Biograd na Moru and Paklenica, too. There are also plenty of pet-friendly mobile homes throughout those destinations. One thing they all have in common is the amazing sea view.
From the lunar-like landscape to lush greenery, from quiet, secluded corners to crowded nightlife hot spots, from modest shepherd’s huts to lavish extravagant units in Noa Glamping Resort: This island really is full of contrasts, meaning it has something for everyone. You can dive into culinary delights, engage in sports activities, explore cultural heritage and buy some well-known local products such as Pag cheese and Pag salt to bring home.
This lovely coastal town on a small peninsula with one of the most modern marinas in Croatia welcomed the first tourists over 100 years ago. It has been an important trading and maritime hub throughout its history but now it focuses on fishing and tourism. There are two campsites south of the town: Campsite Park Soline and Campsite Ljutić. Both of them present a perfect starting point for their nature-loving guests, since national parks Kornati, Telašćica and Vrana Lake are literally within arm’s reach.
You cannot talk about Starigrad without mentioning the national park Paklenica – a real paradise for rock climbers and hikers. But that is not all you can do if you choose to stay at the Bluesun Paklenica campsite: You can also go kayaking or rafting on the Zrmanja River or explore cultural and historic sites in the town. Good food is always just around the corner and the beautiful beaches offer everything you need if all you want to do is relax in the sun.
As the region’s name holder, Zadar offers plenty of options for couples, families and groups of friends: nightlife, amazing cuisine, shopping opportunities, cultural and historic sites, water parks, sports activities and events. The big city port acts as a hub, connecting a large portion of Croatia’s islands and there’s even a direct ferry to Italy. If you wish to escape the crowds in the city, there are plenty of nature resorts nearby where you can recharge in the beautiful and peaceful nature.
The biggest campsite in the region, and the winner of several ACSI and ADAC awards, Zaton Holiday Resort offers everything from mobile homes to glamping units, apartments and camping pitches. It can be found right next to the small town of Nin and most accommodation options are pet-friendly. It’s perfect for families and it has a feature that very few campsites in Croatia can offer: a sandy beach, where you can go horse riding, diving or windsurfing. There’s also a big swimming pool complex within the campsites and plenty of entertainment for children as well as adults.
A slightly smaller campsite near Pakoštane truly lives up to its name, especially the ‘Eco‘ part, since the main material of all the accommodation units is wood. The beautiful mobile homes and the quirky bungalows are located right by the sea. You’ll never run out of food in the all-inclusive restaurant within the resort, which offers a Mediterranean menu that ranges from seafood, to various selection of meats and even vegetarian options. The range of activities in the campsite is also fascinating and it includes beach volleyball, basketball, tennis, and even archery.
Serenity would be the best one-word description for this campsite. With just the right distance from Novalja you can really relax here and enjoy the peace and beauty of nature – and not only you: There’s also a dedicated beach for dogs where your furry family member can run carefree. On your way to the northernmost part of the island, you’ll find the famous Olive Gardens of Lun. And while the keywords so far were peace and relaxation: There’s nothing stopping you from enjoying an amazing night out in Novalja or some extravagant party at Zrće beach.
Family-oriented campsite with plenty to offer: Blue Flag pebble beach, plenty of shade, 2 restaurants, a swimming pool complex, animation programs for both children (creative workshops and dance classes) and adults (Zumba, evening entertainment). It boasts a large range of quality mobile homes, some of them right by the sea and neither of them more than 200m away. The campsite also includes a dog beach. Once there, you will realize that all those ADAC awards are well deserved.
Choosing a destination in the Dalmatia – Zadar region is difficult because of all the options but also simple because you just can’t go wrong with whatever you choose. There is something for everyone in all of the campsites we have to offer: crystal clear sea, endless amounts of sun, beautiful beaches (even sandy ones), loads of activities for all ages, amazing food and plenty of choice for history, culture and nature lovers.
