At the CMT Stuttgart tourism fair, the German ADAC announced the winners of the best campsites in Europe award. Campsite Čikat received the prestigious ADAC Camping Award for its new reservation system, while 24 Croatian campsites received the ADAC Superplatz award for their excellent quality.
Each year Europe’s largest automobile association, the German ADAC with over 21 million members, gives out awards to the best campsites in Europe for their achievements in the camping industry. In addition to the ADAC Superplatz awards, which are only given to campsites that have been awarded 5 stars within strict evaluation criteria, the prestigious ADAC Camping Awards for special achievements are also presented each year.
This year the ADAC Camping Award goes to Campsite Čikat on Lošinj Island for its new online booking system for camping pitches and mobile homes, which allows guests to book a specific pitch using an interactive map.
The project for the new reservation system involved several companies – Istratech, Phobs and TRI M – with the aim of offering guests a simple overview of the campsite and a quick booking option, as well as the integration of the campsite reception and sales desk systems.
This is the third special ADAC award for one of the ‘Camping Cres & Lošinj’ brand campsites. A few years ago, campsite Slatina received the award for its Camping cum Cane project for camping with dogs, and in 2019 campsite Čikat received it for its Safe Camping project when they made an inventory of all the trees in the campsite and set up a tree-maintenance and tree-planting system.
For the ADAC Superplatz title, campsites need to meet the criteria for 5 stars in five categories, including the quality of sanitary facilities, the cleanliness of the pitches, the offer of shops and restaurants, the choice of leisure and entertainment activities, the options for swimming, as well as beach and pool facilities. If a campsite holds the Superplatz title, it acts as proof that guests there will get access to high-quality service and plenty of additional features, as well as organized entertainment.
For 2024, ADAC has awarded the Superplatz plaque to 192 campsites across Europe, with France having the most five-star campsites (46), followed by Italy with 38 excellent campsites and Croatia, which now has 24 such campsites.
1. Campsite Amadria Park Šibenik is set within a larger tourist village, offering a wide range of additional facilities, a water park, a swimming pool by the beach, modern sanitary facilities and an impressive gastronomic offer within the Dalmatian-style village.
2. Campsite Stobreč in Split is located on the outskirts of the town and offers the possibility to enjoy the seaside and visit the old town with the Diocletian’s Palace. A very neat campsite, where the wellness area, the outdoor pools and the restaurant were renovated a few years ago, and the old mobile homes are regularly being replaced with new units. Dogs are also welcome at the campsite, with a special section of the beach dedicated just to them.
3. Campsite Kovačine on the island of Cres – a lot of work has been done in recent years to improve the facilities and eco-friendly operation of the campsite, including the construction of a swimming pool in the upper part of the campsite, the new gym, a wellness area and a children’s playroom. Also, 20 new mobile homes by the Slovenian manufacturer Adria Home, have been added and one of the sanitary facilities has been upgraded with heating for the colder months.
