6 campsites in Umag

The charming town of Umag is an ideal camping destination and the first town you see when entering Istria from the north – that’s why it’s sometimes called ‘the gate of Istria’.

Umag has always been an attractive tourist destination thanks to its enchanting landscape and mild climate. It was discovered by the Roman aristocracy 2000 years ago and they decided to use it as a summer resort. The town’s interesting history is still reflected in the old town centre, and its reputation as a popular tourist destination remains. Cycle paths, beautiful beaches with crystal clear sea and hills dotted with taverns and wine cellars offer an experience of enjoyment in a myriad of ways.

Umag is an ideal destination for camping, especially as the unspoilt Mediterranean landscape is the focus of campsites such as Finida. If you’re a tennis fan, be sure to visit Umag in July, when the complex by our camp Stella Maris hosts the ATP Croatia Open, set against a romantic sea backdrop. The beaches of the campsites will provide you with idyllic afternoons. Spacious pitches of up to 145 m² in the shade of pine trees or by the sea will allow you to rest under the starry sky with the sound of the waves. All of our campsites are pet friendly and we also have a naturist campsite on offer. Check below which campsite suits you best and book your spot.

At the Istrian Villas Resort you will find beautiful apartments with sea views and the option of half board, where you will feel as if you are in your own villa.

Top campsites with pitches in Umag

Campsite Park Umag ****

Camp Park Umag is located ten minutes by car from Umag. Covering an area of 101 hectares, it is the largest campsite in Croatia, and thanks to its first-class facilities and Blue Flag beach, it is a popular choice for family holidays. The pitches, which range in size from 50 to 120 m², will welcome you in the green interior of the camp and by the sea, where you will also find pitches with showers, gazebos and barbecues. Another special feature of the camp is the eco-park with autochthonous Istrian herbs, where you can pick the spices you need for a home-made Mediterranean meal. The swimming pool complex with slides and a pirate ship will be a source of hours of entertainment for the little ones, as well as the creative activities of the animation team. Take the time to relax with a relaxing massage and spend family moments together with activities such as crazy golf, pedalos and surfing lessons.

Campsite Stella Maris ****

Stella Maris is one of the most popular destinations for sports fans, especially tennis fans – the ATP Croatia Open tournament is held in the campsite tennis stadium right next to the camp’s beach. July is therefore a good time to stay at the camp if you are a fan of the night life and concerts that accompany this sporting event. While you’re staying at the camp you can play or learn to play tennis at the tennis school. If you prefer water activities, you can go kayaking, play beach volleyball or try your hand at water polo in the camp’s freshwater pool. Plots in the shade of Mediterranean trees will provide you with a place to truly relax. Choose a size from 70 to 145 m² with connections for electricity, water and satellite TV, and if you wish, you can walk to the centre of Umag. In 2023, the camp was awarded the prestigious ADAC Superplatz prize, which places it among the best campsites in Europe.

Day trip idea – Croatia’s westernmost point

The charming fishing village of Savudrija is a ten-minute drive from Umag. In addition to the picturesque Mediterranean surroundings, there are two special curiosities to be found here. The first is the fact that Cape Savudrija is the westernmost point of Croatia, and the second is the oldest active lighthouse in Croatia. It is possible to visit the cape by bicycle – Savudrija is one of the stops on the most famous Istrian cycle path called Parenzana.

The lighthouse is 36 metres high and was built more than 200 years ago under the patronage of the Austrian Emperor Franz I. This symbol of local history is the subject of many legends. The most famous legend says that the Austrian Count Metternich had it built to token his love for a Croatian lady he met at a ball in Vienna. She died before it was finished, and the dispirited count never returned to Savudrija. This is just one of the many legends associated with the Umag area that you will be lucky to discover for yourself on your next holiday. Book a pitch at one of our campsites and get to know all the beauties of the Umag area.
