The topography of the Šibenik region is probably the most diverse in all of Dalmatia. There is the Krka River making its way towards the sea, but not before filling up the basin of Croatia’s second largest lake, Lake Prokljan with its crystal clear brackish water. Only then do you get to the star of the region: the city of Šibenik. The fascinating old town with numerous attractions is in fact the oldest town in Croatia, founded by the Croats.
Just off the coast of Šibenik, the diversity continues as there are literally hundreds of islands and islets scattered alongside. Campers’ favorite in the area is definitely Island Murter, connected to the continent by a bascule bridge in Tisno which is also a popular holiday destination. The campsites in the Šibenik area are known for lush greenery and natural shade and they are all set right next to the beautiful sea. The range of accommodation units is also wide: You can park your camper close to the sea, pitch a tent, choose a mobile home for extra comfort or a glamping unit for a unique experience.

Shared, private, deep or shallow: A campsite with pool in Šibenik is always a good idea and the highlight of every vacation. Since it tends to include additional features (a slide, a diving board, pirate ships etc.) it’s also perfect for families as it keeps the children entertained while you relax on one of the loungers next to the pool. There’s usually also an animation team for children so you can enjoy some time for yourself and your partner while the youngsters are busy with dancing or creative workshops. A bar with snacks and drinks is also never far from the pool so you won’t have to go back to your accommodation when you want something refreshing.
If you don’t own a camper, you can always rent one and take it to your favorite campsite. Or you can rent a mobile home, which offers the same level of privacy with even more space and comfort for you and your family. Also that way you won’t have to prove your camper parking abilities to your campsite neighbors. The mobile homes in the Šibenik region are all well equipped and many of them are set at the best locations within the campsite: right next to the sea. The views and scents are amazing and as if that isn’t enough, some of them even come with their own private pool. In most of them, your pets are also welcome: There are dog beaches and special showers for them within the campsites.
Let’s start with the biggest destination – the city of Šibenik. The city is defined by 4 fortresses, originally built between the 15th and the 17th century. White stone is the dominant building material, used for the beautiful promenade as well as the town’s cathedral, which also made it to UNESCO’s cultural heritage list. The city is very close to the highway and its port also offers good connections to nearby islands and plenty of daily boat tours. Campsites in the region are well maintained, reasonably priced and offer plenty of entertainment, especially for families.
This quiet little town really comes alive during the summer months. In the past years, it has become somewhat of a secret destination for electronic music festivals. The town is set on a peninsula so it’s facing Island Murter on the west and the continental coast on the east. The narrow strait between Tisno and Murter shortens the sailing route along the coast considerably, so it’s perfect for boat watching as it gets quite busy, especially when the bascule bridge is raised. The sea is crystal clear and the foresty coastline offers lots of shade. That makes it perfect for campsite holidays and there are plenty of options for that: You can bring your own camper, set up a tent or rent a mobile home.
The largest (but not a large) island in the Šibenik region, Murter offers the perfect balance between busy coastal towns and the secluded areas that make you feel like there is not a single person within miles to interrupt your peace. The island is perfect for cyclists and the scenic paved path along the southern coast that connects Tisno and Jezera is simply breathtaking. There are quite a few campsites on the island, mostly small to mid-sized, all well-maintained and set in pine tree forests. They offer camping pitches, mobile homes and even apartments.
Located south of Šibenik, Amadria Park is the perfect family campsite. Sea-water swimming pool with 3 levels is set right next to the pebble beach, where children can enjoy the floating water playground. Entertainment for children and adults is provided within the campsite, not to mention the amazing Aquapark Dalmatia. The nearby Ethno Village gives you a genuine taste of Dalmatia. Besides the Ethno Village, there are also several restaurants and bars on site and even a cake house to fulfill all of your cravings for pastries. The range of accommodation options is wide since there are 450 pitches available and you will also find mobile homes, glamping units and apartments.
This campsite dominates the terraced western coast of Tisno with luxurious mobile homes and glamping units, however, the camping pitches are also very well maintained and equipped with electricity as well as free WiFi plus they provide just enough shade to protect you from the scorching sun. The campsite and its pebble beach are dog-friendly. Restaurant Olivia is right on the beach so you can enjoy the amazing view during your meal and there is also a bar next to the pool. Apart from swimming and the children’s playground which includes a pirate ship, Tisno also offers cycling paths and boat rentals so that you can visit those secret, hard-to-reach spots along the coast or cross over the strait to Island Murter.
A mid-sized campsite on Island Murter is another ideal destination for family holidays. Located opposite the town of Tisno, the campsite encircles the whole bay. That gives you the possibility to either catch or avoid the sun all day long by switching between the beach on the eastern side and the one on the western side of the bay. The list of activities seems endless: cycling, kayaking, pedal boats, tennis, basketball, minigolf and a floating playground for children near the shore. The campsite’s offer is updated yearly; the number of mobile homes has been increased and also the facilities of camping pitches have been improved with the upgrade of electricity, water and WiFi. Pets are also welcome: there is a dog beach and dog showers at the 5 sanitary points. There is a bakery, a restaurant and a shop on site.
National park Krka
The beautiful river Krka created one of the most amazing national parks in Croatia. The cascading waterfalls are a sight to see with Skradinski buk probably being the most impressive one. You can do some sightseeing in various ways: by hiking, biking or taking a boat ride. The river then widens into the Lake Prokljan before reaching the bay of Šibenik.
We’ve mentioned the Aquapark Dalmatia before but let us explain in detail why your children will love it: The park offers a kids-only zone where your children will have uninterrupted fun in the shallow pool with a slide. There is also the Aqua rain fortress which offers a real adventure for all the young explorers. The lazy river will allow you to slowly sail downstream on a circular float. Last but not least: the park also includes a jacuzzi area where parents can relax and enjoy the hydromassage. In short: A visit to Aquapark Dalmatia will definitely be one of the many highlights of your holidays in the Šibenik region!
