Island camping in Croatia

Camping is always a good idea. And even better if you camp on the islands. Croatian islands have a special charm. Maybe it’s because of the karst and rocks, maybe because of their isolation from the mainland. Or maybe because they are simply special on their own.

But in a sea of islands (78 of them), it’s hard to choose just one. That’s why we went all the way from Kvarner to Dalmatia and picked out four magnificent ones: Krk, Rab, Pag and Brač.

Krk

How to get there

The island of Krk is one of the most accessible Croatian islands. It is connected to the mainland by the Krk Bridge, and from Krk you can easily reach the neighboring islands of Cres, Lošinj and Rab by ferry. And one more thing you maybe didn’t know: Krk is also the location of the Rijeka airport.

Where to stay

Campsite Omišalj

The first populated place you will come across when you arrive on the island is Omišalj. Here you will find the campsite Omišalj. In addition to a long pebble beach, this 5-star campsite offers a special treat: a mini zoo. Accommodation is available in modern mobile homes and beautifully landscaped pitches by the sea.

Valamar Camping Ježevac

About 30 kilometers to the south lies the historic town of Krk, where you will find Valamar Camping Ježevac. This family-friendly campsite provides first-class facilities and a scenic coastline. It has modern mobile homes located in a traffic-free zone and pitches with sea views.

Rab

How to get there

If there is one island in Croatia where you can find sandy beaches, it is the island of Rab. Unofficially, there are even 30 of them! The island of Rab is connected to the mainland by 2 ferry lines: Stinica – Mišnjak (Rab) and Valbiska (Krk) – Lopar (Rab).

Where to stay

Valamar Camping San Marino

If you are traveling via Krk, you will arrive on the northwestern side of the island. There you will find Valamar Camping San Marino, located right next to the famous Paradise Beach. This campsite will be enjoyed by the whole family, as well as by pets. Accommodation is provided in spacious mobile homes for up to 8 people, as well as on pet-friendly pitches.

Valamar Camping Padova

On the southwestern side of the island, near the town of Rab, is our second campsite. Valamar Camping Padova offers fun for the whole family. Outdoor pools, water park, animations, fitness. And to top it all off, accommodation in eco-mobile homes and on seaside pitches.

Pag

How to get there

The island of Pag has several titles. The island with the most indented coast, the party island, the moon island. It is connected to the mainland by the Pag Bridge in the south and the Prizna – Žigljen (Pag) ferry line in the north.

Where to stay

Campsite Straško

Just a 15-minute drive from the ferry port, in the popular town of Novalja, lies the campsite Straško. This family campsite offers plenty of opportunities for an active vacation. Try out water sports and stay in mobile homes with a shared pool or on pitches with lots of shade.

Aminess Avalona Camping Resort

On the south side of the island, about 20 minutes drive from the Pag Bridge, is Aminess Avalona Camping Resort. This is the only 5-star campsite on the island. It is also the only campsite in Croatia where the pitches have private pools. In addition to luxury pitches, you can find accommodation in premium quality mobile homes.

Brač

How to get there

The island of Brač is the highest Croatian island and the one closest to the city of Split. The island can be reached by ferry from 2 directions. The Split – Supetar (Brač) ferry line docks on the northern side, while the Makarska – Sumartin (Brač) ferry line docks on the eastern side of the island.

Where to stay

Boutique Campsite Bunja

The good news is that it takes only 5 minutes by car from the ferry port to the first campsite on the island. Just outside the town of Supetar you will find the Boutique Campsite Bunja. This mini campsite offers an intimate atmosphere, a heated pool and views of the city of Split. It is ideal for couples who can find accommodation in mobile homes right by the beach or on beautifully maintained pitches.
