Grape Days

Along with the best wines, there are also events related to this highly appreciated beverage. Visit the Grape Days in Buje and experience the authentic Istria.

Central Istria hides a magic that goes beyond the beauty of the coast itself. Here, among vineyards, olive groves and dense forests, lies a landscape full of natural beauty, rich history and authentic flavors. If you are a fan of active vacations, secluded places and untouched nature, the interior of Istria will win you over at first sight.

The Buje region, situated between the Mirna and Dragonja rivers, is synonymous with gentle hills covered with vineyards and olive groves. In this area, often referred to as the “guardian of Istria”, the Mediterranean climate and rich soil create perfect conditions for the cultivation of indigenous wine varieties, the most prominent of which is the Momjan Muscat. The vineyards of Bujština are part of one of the most famous wine roads in Istria, where the tradition of ancestors is intertwined with the innovations of new generations. Here, wine is not only drunk as a beverage, but experienced as a part of identity.

In addition to wine, Bujština is also known for its craft beer, produced in the San Servolo brewery. Located near Buje, the brewery is named after the town’s patron saint and is famous for its beer brewed according to the German Purity Law of 1516. Natural spring water from the Mirna River valley, barley malt, hops and yeast give these beers a special, authentic taste. Visit the brewery and taste 6 different types of beer, as well as culinary specialties inspired by beer, such as beer soup or the innovative pivomisu.

One of the most important events in this area is certainly the Grape Days, an event held every year in Buje in mid-September. For 3 days, the vineyards and wineries of the Buje region become the center of a celebration of viticulture and winemaking tradition. Horse-drawn processions, grape harvest, preparation of local dishes and dances bring an authentic experience of Istrian life. This festival attracts locals and tourists from all over the world who come to enjoy the rich program and top quality wines.
