Campsite holidays are becoming increasingly popular due to the wide range of accommodation options and activities that campsites offer. One of the options are safari or glamping tents, which offer more comfort and allow guests to start enjoying their holiday from the minute they arrive at the campsite since they can skip pitching the tent.
Camping has its origins mainly in the form of tent camps, usually set up in circles around the camp fire. From that all the other forms of camping emerged: from caravans to motorhomes and now mobile homes.
Glamping (glamorous camping) is therefore a back-to-the-roots approach with a modern twist for extra comfort and practicality. Glamping tents are set up as fixed wooden structures, covered with canvas, fully equipped with everything you need so guests only have to unpack their bags. Glamping tents come in different shapes and sizes, from the more basic safari tents to luxurious glamping tents with two floors, up to 3 bedrooms, private bathrooms, a hot tub on the terrace and more.
Safari tents usually come with a kitchenette that includes a fridge, two bedrooms and a terrace. They don’t include a bathroom so showers, toilets etc. are provided within the campsite’s sanitary facilities.
These tents are more affordable and present a nice option for people who are cost-conscious, love the real spirit of camping, but also prefer the practicality, especially since they don’t have to pack and set up their own tent and bring all the necessary additional camping equipment with them. This way they have more space in their car for other things like deck chairs, SUP boards, kayaks, …
Better equipped safari tents also come with air conditioning, and sometimes dogs are allowed (an extra fee might be charged).
You can find safari tents in campsites along the whole Croatian coastline and on mainland as well: Campsite Bijela Uvala, Campsite Polidor, Campsite Valkanela, Campsite Polari, Campsite Val Saline, Campsite BiVillage, Campsite Vita …
These units offer a more luxurious touch. They come with a private bathroom, tasteful furnishing and equipment, which is often high-end, they sometimes have additional facilities on site, such as a private pool/hot tub or a grill on the terrace. They are also set up closer to the beach, often with an amazing sea view. These are also available in different sizes: from cozy, romantic 1-bedroom units for couples, to large 2-floor “canvas villas” with 3 bedrooms. They have air-conditioning, large terraces with loungers or hammocks and usually include WiFi and TV.
There are 2 well-known glamping resorts in Croatia: the first one is Arena One 99 Glamping near Pula, Istria. It offers about 200 glamping units of different sizes on a beautiful peninsula of Pomer, which offers many activities and plenty of natural shade.
The other one is Floria Glampig Garden near Labin on the eastern coast of Istria. This resort is tucked slightly away from the sea (but still no more than 10 minutes by car from the nearest beach) and besides the amazing glamping units with a pool or a jacuzzi it also offers perfect peace and tranquility in the middle of lush greenery near the Istrian village some 250m above sea level.
There are proper glamping units available also in other campsites in Croatia. You can find them in Istria: Lanterna Premium Camping Resort, Istra Premium Resort, Campsite Amarin, Campsite Santa Marina and Banki Green Village. There are also glamping units in campsite Falkensteiner Premium close to Zadar.
Glamping are not limited to mainland only. There are plenty of options on the Croatian islands as well: Krk Premium Resort on the island of Krk, Campsite Čikat on the island of Lošinj, on the island of Obonjan (close to Šibenik), and Campsite Olivia Green on Tisno near the island of Murter.
