Autumn camping on Brač Island

Bol-brac-beach

In September, the Dalmatian islands get much quieter compared to the high season, and the daytime temperatures are perfect for swimming, as well as for other activities such as exploring the towns, hiking or cycling. We invite you to go camping at a campsite on the island of Brač, where they have prepared interesting activities including grape harvesting, wine tasting, art workshops, yoga and meditation.

The easiest way to get to the island of Brač is by ferry from Split, which goes directly to Supetar. For camping on Brač we recommend the modern Boutique Campsite Bunja about 2 km from Supetar, where you’ll find well-equipped pitches, mobile homes for 4+2 people, a small swimming pool and a pebble beach.

Bol Brac

What to visit during your holidays on Brač?

Brač is the third largest Croatian island, and along with its beautiful beaches, it also offers many sightseeing opportunities. After arriving in Supetar, you can visit the 17th-century Church of the Annunciation in the center of the town, or you can go to the cemetery, which is located on a peninsula by the sea, where a mausoleum is built in white stone.

We definitely recommend a visit to the town of Bol to take a walk and a swim at Zlatni rat beach, which is indeed something special. It’s very crowded in summer but much less in autumn, so you can really enjoy it then.

If you want to have the best view of the southern part of the island, Zlatni rat beach and the island of Hvar, you should climb the highest hill on Brač: Vidova gora (780 m above sea level). You can drive almost to the top from Nerežišća, but if you want to hike, there is a trail from Bol and it takes about 2 hours. You can also get to Vidova Gora by bicycle, as there is a trail from Murvica along the main road, which then steeply ascends all the way to the top.

On the south side of the island, the Blaca MonasteryBlaca Hermitage – is set in a valley which has been home to the monks since the 16th century, and now houses a museum. It can be accessed from the north by car from Nerežišća or from the south from Murvica. In both cases, it ends up being a half-hour walk to the monastery. The museum is open 9-17h every day except Monday in high season and 9-15h before 15 June and after 15 September. Ticket prices: adults 7 €, children 2 €.

We also recommend a visit to Pučišća on the north side of the island, which used to be the largest town on the island and is famous for its white Brač stone and stonecutting tradition dating back to the 15th century.

Zmajeva jama (Dragon’s Cave) is located near the town of Murvica and can be reached by a 1-hour hike (sports shoes required). As access to the cave itself is locked, you must make an appointment in advance. Click here for more information about the Dragon’s Cave tour.

For hiking enthusiasts, Brač has a marked and signposted circular hiking trail, Via Brattia, which connects the 12 cultural and historical settlements, such as Supetar, Sutivan, Milna, Murvica, Bol, Sumartin, Pučišća, Postira, and others. The total length of the trail is 140 km.

There are also 25 marked and maintained bike paths on the island, one of them goes from Supetar to Sutivan – a 15 km long family bike path called Sveti Roko. Near Campsite Bunja there is a 28 km bike path called Sveti Lovre, which leads past the towns of Splitska and Postira to the Lovrečina beach.

Autumn camping on the island of Brač: Campsite Bunja

Just 2 km from the centre of Supetar, Boutique Campsite Bunja is set on a pebbly beach. It is one of the best campsites in this part of Dalmatia, offering well-equipped camping pitches and mobile homes, a swimming pool, a café and a children’s playroom. Campsite Bunja will be open until 3 November this year, so you could consider it for a Halloween getaway. In September and October the campsite offers special 5-10% discounts on mobile home rentals.

You can combine your autumn camping in the excellent Bunja Campsite with the traditional grape harvest in the Senjković family vineyards. A special program has been prepared for the weekend of 13-15 September, including a shuttle service to the winery:

  • Friday, 13 September at 17h: Wine tasting (6 wines + 1 sparkling wine + vermouth + homemade cheese, prosciutto and olives)
