Dog-free zones in Croatian campsites

dog-not-allowed

Camping is often seen as the perfect way to reconnect with nature, and for many, that includes bringing their four-legged companions along. At the same time, some campers may feel uneasy around dogs or simply prefer a pet-free environment. Since rules and facilities for dogs can vary from one campsite to another, we’ve put together a short guide to help both dog owners and those who prefer dog-free areas to plan their camping holidays with ease and consideration for everyone’s comfort.

Croatia vs Italy

Most campsites in Croatia are dog-friendly. In fact, only two of the campsites that you can book through our portal do not accept dogs: Campsite Papafigo in Vodnjan, Istria, and campsite Pine Beach Pakoštane in Dalmatia.

The list of such campsites is longer in Italy, where 17 of our campsites are exclusively dog-free: Camping Village Portofelice, Camping Malibu Beach, Sant’ Angelo Village, Residence Village, Pra delle Torri, Italy Camping Village and Camping Ca’ Savio in Veneto region, Camping Cisano San Vito, Belvedere Village, Family Camping Serenella and Camping Bella Italia near Lake Garda, Il Gabbiano Camping Village and Parco delle Piscine in Tuscany, California Camping Village near Lazio, Campsite Iscrixedda on Sardinia, Camping Del Sole in Lombardy and Villagio Camping Baia Domizia in Campania.

Dog-free camping accommodations

Some campsites in Croatia that accept dogs do not allow them in any of the mobile homes (at least not those that can be rented via our website): Campsite Zelena Laguna, Campsite Santa Marina, Campsite Vita and Campsite Piccolo.

At other campsites, the rules regarding dogs in mobile homes may vary from one mobile home type to another. This is because of the facilities next to the mobile home (e.g. dogs not allowed by the pool within the mobile home village) or depending on the rules of the individual accommodation provider, since often several providers offer mobile homes within the same campsite.

It is similar with camping pitches where at certain dog-friendly campsites dogs are not allowed on all types of pitches. For example, at Valamar campsites dogs can stay on all except the following pitches:

In FKK Campsite Ulika in Poreč dogs are only permitted on FKK Luxury Mare pitches and not on any of the other five pitch types.

General rules regarding dogs at campsites

Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times within campsites, except in the designated dog parks where they can run freely. These fenced dog playgrounds are especially common in campsites which are included in dog-friendly programs such as Camping cum cane. Similarly, some campsites have entire mobile home villages dedicated to dogs. For example Happy Dog Village at Valamar Camping Lanterna, which includes a dog beach, dog-sitting services, a grooming salon, a pet shop, showers, and a playground.

It is also important to note that not all campsites in Croatia which accept dogs have a designated beach for them. In Croatia, dogs are only allowed on beaches which are marked with a ‘dog-friendly beach‘ signs. On the rest of the beach area dogs are not allowed, which helps to ensure public hygiene and safety, comfort for all guests at public, as well as protecting the environment.
Apart from the strict rules regarding dogs on beaches, there are certain general areas in each campsite where dogs are also usually not allowed. These include swimming pools, restaurants, receptions, supermarkets, playrooms and children’s playgrounds.

When it comes to dog hygiene, there are often designated showers where owners can wash their dogs. These showers are either at separate locations within the campsite or on the outside of sanitary facilities, as dogs are usually not allowed inside. Also it goes without saying that owners must always clean after their dogs – campsites have plenty of dog waste trash cans set up, some even have waste bag dispensers.

We hope that with all the information shared above, both dog owners and those who prefer dog-free zones can make well-informed decisions and enjoy their camping holidays in perfect harmony, even when staying at the same campsite.
