And this September, they are a must-visit destination if you’re looking for an active vacation away from the summer crowds. September events in the town of Krk

While the island has many beautiful destinations worth a visit, this September, the town of Krk is the place to be. In addition to beautiful beaches and popular campsites, this month you can also enjoy some activities while learning more about the town itself.

Free guided cycling tours around the town of Krk

On two Saturdays in September, you can take part in cycling tours. Both of them are free, but you need to register as the places are limited. You can do so by sending an email at info@visitkrk.city.

  • The first tour is on the 13th of September. Cyclists should meet between 8:30 and 9:00 am on the waterfront in the centre of Krk. This will be followed by a 32 km bike ride with a total elevation gain of 450 m. The route for the ride is: Krk – Prniba – Kornić – Muraj – Ponikve – Kaštel Salatić – Krk. The ride will take place with stops until around 1 pm. Since much of the route is on a pebble road, participants must wear a helmet and ride a mountain bike. Children may only cycle when accompanied by their parents.
  • The second tour is on the 20th of September. The meeting point will be the same: the waterfront, between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. This will be followed by a 23 km bike ride with a total elevation gain of 380 m. The route for the ride is: Krk – Kimpi – Kaštel Salatić – Lakmartin – Muraj – Kornić – Krk. The ride will last until around 12 p.m., and mountain bikes are again required.

Free walking tours of the town of Krk

If you’re more into longer walks than cycling, this event might be a better fit for you. These free guided tours, called “Od krša do zlata”, meaning “From Karst to Gold” will be held on the last two Sundays in September (21st and 28th) at 6 p.m. The meeting point for both dates is at the Glagolitic Square (next to the upper city gate).

The tour is available in Croatian and English, and during it you will hear stories of the town’s past from a local guide. Even though the tour is free, due to limited capacity, you must register in advance via email at info@visitkrk.city.

Camping in the town of Krk
