3 new Superplatz campsites in Croatia

Every year, the German ADAC awards the Superplatz title to campsites across Europe that meet their criteria. For 2025, there are 200 campsites in this category, including 26 from Croatia. We have summed up the list of the award-winning campsites.

Superplatz campsites – only the best

The Superplatz camping title is the highest award that can be given to a campsite in Europe and is awarded by the German autoclub ADAC based on the assessments, carried out by their own inspectors. Campsites with this title guarantee a wide range of services and, above all, excellent quality.

For campsites, this title is also an obligation, as the guests who come to camp with them expect quality service in all areas. Five criteria are taken into account when assessing a campsite, with the greatest emphasis being placed on the cleanliness and equipment of the sanitary facilities and the camping pitches. However, other categories, such as location, are also very important, meaning that campsites close to the sea or a lake have certain advantage.

Assessment criteria for the Superplatz Camping title:

• the cleanliness, size and equipment of the pitches
• cleanliness and size of sanitary facilities
• leisure and entertainment facilities
• catering and commercial facilities
• bathing facilities: natural bathing areas and swimming pools

Croatia has 26 Superplatz campsites

ADAC has awarded 200 Camping Superplatz titles for 2025: 12 more than last year, which is a record.

France has the most five-star campsites with 47, Italy has 40, Croatia has 26 (3 more than last year), same as the Netherlands, Germany has 23, Spain 17, Austria 11, Denmark 3, Switzerland 2, followed by Portugal, Sweden, Hungary, Luxembourg and Greece with one each.

Two new Superplatz winners in Istria, one on the island of Pag

Croatia’s campsites are among the best in Europe, as shown by their ADAC rating. With an average rating of 3.8 (out of a maximum of 5), they are in second place, just behind the campsites in the Netherlands, which have an average rating of 3.9, followed by campsites in France (3.6), Italy (3.4) and Austria (3.4).

The excellent quality is particularly evident among campsites in Istria, where the largest and best-equipped campsites are to be found. This year alone, 13 of them have been awarded the Superplatz title. The Kvarner region has 6 of the best campsites, while 7 are in Dalmatia.

The new Superplatz winners are:

– Camping Valkanela near Vrsar

– Camping Amarin in Rovinj

– Camping Aminess Avalona Resort on the island of Pag

Campsite Valkanela – Vrsar

Open from April to October, the Valkanela campsite has done a lot of work in recent years to improve its facilities, in particular renovating a number of sanitary facilities, improving the campsite pitches, building new mobile homes, and adding modern children’s playgrounds. Last year, a large sports center was completely redesigned, with the addition of children’s playgrounds, a fitness center and a mini-golf course.

In addition to traditional camping pitches, they also offer a variety of mobile homes for 2-6 people. The newest mobile homes are located by the sea, while mobile homes with pools and private jacuzzis are also available.

Camping Valkanela also has a large swimming pool complex, including a children’s pool with water games, and a varied beach with a large pebbly bay and a smaller sandy area. The campsite also has a well marked dog beach. The location of the campsite is perfect for strolling and cycling along the sea, as there are paths in the direction of both Vrsar and Poreč.

Campsite Amarin – Rovinj

North from Rovinj lies the Amarin campsite, which has been completely renovated in recent years, and this year they are adding a new swimming pool complex, which is to be opened by summer. It includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools, water playgrounds and water slides. The children’s entertainment will be further improved in the new Ultramarine Kids Club, and the central square will be redesigned.

Campsite Amarin, along with the well-equipped camping pitches in the central part, also offers modern mobile homes with two or three bedrooms, and glamping tents for up to four people. It also has modern sanitary facilities.

The campsite has a newly landscaped beach, which is now divided into two larger pebbly sections, and there are two new swimming pools and a restaurant on the right-hand side. There is also a dog beach at the edge of the resort. Last year, a shop, a new reception and a sports park with children’s play areas were added, as well as a skate park.

Campsite Aminess Avalona Resort – Povljana, island Pag

In 2024, a brand new campsite, Aminess Avalona Resort, has opened on the southern part of the island of Pag, and after its first year of operation, it was already awarded the Superplatz title. The campsite is open from mid-April to October.

It is an extremely well designed and equipped campsite, one of the first to offer camping pitches with a private heated swimming pool. The mobile homes and glamping cabins also have swimming pools next to them. The mobile home village is arranged in a vehicle-free zone, with guests being transported to their mobile home by electric golf carts.

The campsite has a large swimming pool complex with water slides and water games (the water is heated), and a wellness area with saunas and massages next to the pools. There is an indoor playroom for children, animation in summer, a large children’s playground, a floodlit sports center with tennis, basketball and football courts, a fitness room and a mini-golf course. Bicycle rental is also available. There are two restaurants, a shop, a patisserie, and walking path by the sea as well as a dog beach at the edge of the campsite.
