First hand experience – a family weekend in a mobile home

CampUmag_4K_46_cropped

Our children love going camping. Our daughter is only 2 years old, our son is 5, and we haven’t dared to camp in a tent or caravan yet. But we definitely plan to try it in the future. In the meantime, mobile homes are a convenient solution for us. They offer the comfort we need while allowing us to enjoy all the benefits of staying at a campsite.

A little about the mobile homes

We wanted to get away from it all, out of the city, to spend a short weekend in nature and by the sea. While searching, I came across the brand new mobile homes at Camping Park Umag – Adria Garden.

The photos looked promising. These are brand new mobile homes that were installed at the campsite a few weeks ago. There are two types – Adria Blue Seaside are closer to the sea and Adria Garden are about 200 meters from the sea. Because the prices were very attractive, we decided it would be nice to try them out. Nice location, lots of fun for the kids (they love swimming pools) and some relaxation for us too. Booking was easy and quick and took just over 2 minutes. The confirmation email arrived shortly after, which meant it was time to start packing. Personally, I don’t like that at all, but when I showed my children a few photos of where we were going, they were eager to help.

Check-in

We chose Adria Blue Seaside because of its location. Our first impression upon arrival was very positive. We checked in directly with the provider next to the campsite’s main reception. You can park right next to the reception, which is very convenient. I felt that there was personal contact and that it wasn’t a ‘let’s just get this over with’ mentality, which I really appreciate. Mr. Ivo was very nice and relaxed, and he showed us on the map where our house would be for the next two days.

Just to let you know in advance: the campsite is quite large, but very well signposted. It’s easy to find your way around and we had no trouble finding our mobile home. On the way, we drove right past one of the children’s pools and had to use a lot of persuasion to be allowed to continue. Only when we promised that we would just unpack and then go straight to the pool were we allowed to continue.

First impression

As the name suggests, our Adria Blue Seaside was located right by the sea, and the first thing we all noticed was how modern it was and that it didn’t feel like a mobile home at all. Everything was as good as new, high quality, nothing creaked, and even in the bathrooms you didn’t feel like you were in temporary accommodation, which is often the case with mobile homes.

The living room had a table with four chairs and the kitchen was very well equipped. There were all the cooking utensils you could think of, as well as a filter coffee machine (including some filters in the cupboard) and a kettle. The kitchen had a large refrigerator with a freezer compartment (not to be underestimated in the summer). Air conditioning was included in the price. The beds in the smaller room (in our case, the children’s room) were separate and could also be moved around quite easily, which we found very practical. Our daughter has only recently started sleeping in the room with her older brother, and we prefer to be able to push the beds together and place them against the wall on one side (for safety).

It was also very convenient that we could park our car right next to the mobile home. I don’t know about you, but I always end up having to go back to the car to fetch something I should have brought with me in the first place.

The highlight

The absolute highlight of the mobile home (and we all agreed on this) was the large terrace (26 m2). Because we were in the front row by the sea, we had a view of the sea and a large lawn in front of us. Our children played soccer here, drew with chalk on the street, and, most importantly, they were in sight the whole time. We actually spent most of our time on the terrace, whether it was to play, relax on the sun loungers, watch the sunset, have breakfast, or climb on the poles, as you can see in the photos (they loved this).

And last but not least, a quick word about the beds. The mattresses were fantastic. My wife is actually very sensitive when it comes to comfortable beds, but we have rarely slept as well as we did here. There were practical lamps above the bed—anyone who likes to read before going to sleep will appreciate this. The showers in both bathrooms were spacious and, as already mentioned, I didn’t feel like I was staying in a mobile home.

What we missed

A door to the terrace would have been great. This would have made it even easier for us to enjoy our stay. Although there is virtually no traffic in the area where we were, you can’t let small children out of your sight. Many guests use the trick of putting a deck chair in front of the door. This works very well and I’ve seen people use it for pets too.

EXTRA TIP:

As the campsite is quite large, we definitely recommend bringing extra vehicles for the children. Whether it’s a small bike or a scooter, you won’t regret it. Especially if the children are still a bit younger, like ours are.

About the campsite

Park Umag is one of the largest campsites in Croatia. The first thing we noticed on our way to our mobile home was how green it is here. The nature is beautiful, everything is clean and there are hedges, flowers, lawns and trees everywhere.

The swimming pools

We had checked the map beforehand to see where the swimming pool complexes were – there are actually two here. The first complex is next to the reception, right at the entrance, and consists of a children’s pool with a pirate ship, a small pool and a slightly larger pool where you can also swim a few laps. Next to the pools is a bar where you can get something to drink or a snack. The absolute highlight for us was, of course, the small pool with the pirate ship. We spent most of our time here and were able to relax a bit. The ship is so interesting that it kept us (well, the children) entertained for hours. Because the pool is not deep, we didn’t have to be on guard all the time, but could relax on the sun loungers at the edge of the pool.

On the second day, we went to the larger and newer swimming pool complex, which was really beautiful. This stunning complex has a large, beautiful infinity pool, a fun children’s pool with a water park (including slides and a water playground) and a small pool for the little ones. We liked this best because it was covered with a sunshade, so the sun wasn’t too bright. There is a nice restaurant with a bar right next to the small toddler pool. And if you’re hungry, you can order something to eat, have a cup of coffee, or get an ice cream. A little tip: don’t let your little ones persuade you to get two scoops of ice cream—one is more than enough because they are huge!

Below the Canova pool complex is the Canova beach. Here you will find a small sandpit and sun loungers to relax on. This is a Blue Flag beach.

When things get boring

When it comes to entertainment and activities, there is plenty to do at Camping Park Umag. Unfortunately, the program didn’t start until the day after we left (June 10), so we weren’t able to try it out. But we did some research and found out what there is to do, which was very useful!

From June 10 to the end of August, the campsite offers Club 4, perfect for children aged 8 months to 4 years. For children aged 4 to 8, there is also the Mini Club, with daily creative workshops and games. And for slightly older children, there is the Junior Club (9 to 12 years) and the Teens Club (13 to 17 years). In the evenings, there is a fun evening program for the whole family! And for adults, there is yoga, Pilates, and aqua fitness to keep them entertained!

Food and drink

As for the restaurants on the campsite, during our short stay we only ate at the swimming pools. That’s where we spent most of our time. We cooked our own lunches in the mobile home. As mentioned, we had everything we needed and enjoyed our meals in peace and quiet on the terrace of the mobile home. If you need fresh fruit and vegetables, for example, there is also a vegetable stall and a well-stocked supermarket on the campsite. In addition to various restaurants, a pizzeria, and snack bars by the pools, there are also small snack bars with street food, donuts, hamburgers, and a bakery. If you need to do some shopping, the town of Umag with its many large supermarkets is only a 5-minute drive away.

Conclusion

We thoroughly enjoyed our short trip to Umag. The children cried on the way home and didn’t want to leave. I completely understand them, because we would have loved to stay longer. Despite the short time we spent here, we were able to really relax.

And one thing is certain: we plan to spend our future trips and family vacations at a campsite. The range of entertainment and activities for children is unmatched and cannot be found anywhere else. Because we are slowly getting the children used to camping and sleeping in a tent, mobile homes are the ideal solution for us. And we really liked the new Adria Blue Seaside at Camping Park Umag, which met all our expectations. Now we just have to decide when to come back. If it were up to our children, it would be right now.
